Desert Voltage captures the raw energy of a New Mexico thunderstorm through bold geometry, explosive lines, and the unmistakable colors of the Southwest.

The composition combines powerful black forms with burnt orange, turquoise, yellow, and subtle lavender. Sharp angles move across the piece almost like bolts of lightning cutting through a desert sky. Against the quieter areas of the composition, those lines create a sense of movement, tension, and electricity.

New Mexico has a way of making the sky part of the landscape. Summer storms can transform a peaceful desert horizon into something dramatic within minutes—dark clouds, brilliant flashes of lightning, intense color, and sunlight still breaking through in the distance. Desert Voltage is my abstract interpretation of that energy.

Rather than painting a literal landscape or thunderstorm, I wanted to translate that feeling into shape, line, color, and movement. The turquoise brings the Southwest into the composition, while the orange evokes desert earth and the black forms provide the power and contrast that hold everything together.

For me, Desert Voltage represents that moment when nature seems completely alive—unpredictable, beautiful, and impossible to ignore.

It is part of my continuing exploration of contemporary Southwestern abstract art, combining the colors and spirit of New Mexico with my own geometric visual language.
